The P.O. Box

There are moments in which I find myself longing for a time before computers, cell phones, and automotive vehicles, when traversing cobblestone streets, reading by candlelight, and travel by horse drawn carriage was considered ordinary. Likewise, something in me yearns to quilt large blankets, darn socks, and embroider handkerchiefs.

I believe it is my nostalgia for a simpler, and seemingly more deliberate, time that I am excited to announce that I have reserved a P.O. Box to receive blog related mail.

I would guess the idea first came to me after seeing the movie The Intouchables. I, of course, promptly forgot about it. Thankfully, inspiration struck again one night as I leafed through The Letters of Emily Dickinson (Edited by Miller & Mitchell 2024), a new, critically acclaimed collection of (you guessed it!) Emily Dickinson’s letters that had just arrived in the mail.

Admittedly, I’ve never been good at understanding poetry; therefore, many of Dickinson’s letters, being poems themselves, may as well be Greek. I can appreciate, however, that Dickinson wrote letters to so many (“well over 500 poems” alone),1 and I love the underlying sentiment.

As one of the editors put it, Dickinson’s letters were a thoughtful way to let the people in her life know that she cared for them and, similarly, that she appreciated their care in return.2

I imagine this epistolary journey leading to new friends and lands unknown, and I can’t wait to get started!

Letters, drawings, grocery lists, recipes, etc. are all welcome and can be mailed to:
